Earlier this month one sister of mine had a birthday. In a couple of days another sister of mine has a birthday. As I thought about sending birthday greetings to the one whose birthday is to come tomorrow I started to think, let’s see, two sisters born in December and my third sister was born in February and I was born in February so there must have been a couple a months during a year my parents got busy. Then I thought about the fact that one of my sisters who is a Mother to 4 decided to have 3 of them in January. Then I began to think I don’t even know how old any of these members of my family are and then it hit me they are all One Year Old! I started to think if a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a day then everyone reading this is only One. That then makes for a natural birth and a death in one day. But then I realized with God there is no time and that he is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow so then when he created us he gave us a beginning but when was that? Since we are spirit beings it is only the Roman calendar that affixes time in a measured way. And since God was already there before “In the Beginning” and if we are a part of his substance then how can we determine a birthdate? And since we live in a temporal body, it is the body only that is aging but not the real us. Huh? It is sort of like when I was establishing a future schedule with receptionist I told her my next appointment was on December 30 so then make my next one for December 32nd. The other patients laughed and the receptionist looked at me as though I were mad but I quickly when on to explain to her that there is really only one month in a year. Now more people got involved and said if that were the case then we only get paid one month out of twelve. No said I, if there is but one month you only had to segment your pay by the hour instead of a week. But what day would you call it they asked? I said call it whatever you want but you simply got paid every so many hours in the same day. Doesn’t our Lord say something to effect; I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. So then we can call it the Day of the Lord. Are you saying? Yes! Happy Day of the Lord, my sister. Besides I never did understand why a girl would want to be born on December 22nd when Christmas was just three days away. It always seemed to me that she sure got a lot of presents that week err, I mean day. So instead of Happy Birth-day one could say Happy Day-birth.
Also, I might say Merry Christmas as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus. Now let’s see…, Jesus was born…..
