Worldly definition of a persons use is devoid of truth. Evaluation of a mature man or woman is predicated upon criteria that is flawed, inaccurate and
convoluted. What does age have to do with value in a person when in fact age is a desirable attribute in such things as wine or antiques? You cannot pour “new wine in an old wineskin” the scriptural saying goes but what does old wine represent? Then the disciples of John approached him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “The bridegroom’s attendants are not able to mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them. But days are coming when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. But no one puts a patch of unshrunken cloth on an old garment, for its patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear becomes worse. Nor do they put new wine into old wineskin. ⌊Otherwise⌋ the wineskins burst and the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are destroyed. But they put new wine into new wineskin and both are preserved”. Certainly the world looks upon the body and its process of time and continually attempt to apply remedies to the appearance of age but still the body retains the days and years it has born the soul occupied within. That “New Wine” will find no place in a body bent upon worldly ways and attempting to fit Christ in. No, a cleansing process is required in which all things become new and Christ becomes the head of the life you lead. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunate that a further rejection by the world will occur when one is deemed too radical for Christ and it is certain the world will consider a person of little use and someone to be avoided. But when the Spirit comes and fills you with his light points of decay and holes in the skin are magnified which indeed allows for the leakage of life and the retention of his goodness lost. When God promised to give Abraham a son, the patriarch would never have been able to believe in this promise if he had considered his own body, already aged and worn out. However, he would see nothing but God and His promise, the power and faithfulness of God who guaranteed him the fulfillment of His promise.
So the world has its own evaluation of a persons worth and the Lord quite another. Of what value is holding all the world’s wealth and living in torment? “There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. “And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. “But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Now we enter in to that new year (Wine) and the old does truly fade away and newness of thought and a renewed enterprising of effort does come forth and the world looks with awe at the one they thought was discarded.
