It goes without saying we are inundated every minute of every day with words. It seems everyone and everything is facilitated in some manner through and by words. You can see words, be touched by words, and hear words. You can be edified by words destroyed by words and obtain college degrees from words. You can give your word, go back on your word and negotiate and write all manner of contracts and assume obligations on your word. You can even have your last word or your first words to which everybody rejoices and in some cases peace when words have ceased. Thoughts are described by words verbal or written and books are written full of words which necessitates other books sometimes compiled to help us understand the meaning of words. I write my words describing a premise only to see another use words to refute my position and to state why using their own words. This of course could cause a rebuttal from me and we now have an activity based upon another word called ‘debate’ which encompasses a bevy of words flying back and forth until one says no more. So what’s up with words? I have been thinking which of course means the employment of words because I do not know of any other way to think because I think in words, and how do I communicate those thoughts to another without them. And my thought is this: In the beginning was the “WORD”.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it”.
The underlined ‘did not comprehend it’ is perhaps the failure of words regarding purpose and the true meaning intended for those words. Language is: the method of human communication, either spoken or written, consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way.
“a study of the way children learn language” any nonverbal method of expression or communication. “a language of gesture and facial expression”. So language is defined as a method of human communication either spoken or written, consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way. So now my structured words encased in my thoughts goes to Babel and the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. The LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them. “Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”…and in me a light goes on, Robert, you are nothing more than a word.
